WOC 2028 in Spain, WTMBOC 2026 to Sweden and EOC 2026 in Lithuania

A number of future international championships found their home, when the IOF Council met during World Orienteering Championships in Edinburgh in July.

Here, the Council appointed Spain as the host of WOC 2028, which is a Sprint WOC.

The 2028 World Orienteering Championship is set to take place in Girona, located in the north-eastern corner of the country.

Girona will also host next year’s World Masters Orienteering Championship and the 2028 championships will be the first ever WOC in Spain.

WMTBOC 2026 in Sweden
The world’s best MTBO athletes are going to Sweden in 2026 to crown their world champions.

The Swedish bid was chosen by the Council and it means revisiting the terrains in the region of Dalarna in central Sweden.

The area also hosted WMTBOC in 2022.

According to the Swedish Orienteering Federation, the championships are to be held at the end of August 2026.

EOC 2026 in Lithuania
The European Championships in 2026 offer the athletes a chance to try their hand at the forest terrains in the Baltics since Lithuania was chosen as host.

It is the first time that a large, international senior Foot-O championship is coming to Lithuania, which has plenty of experience in organizing JWOC, WMOC, WMTBOC and WTOC, among others.
